Peter Bonev (*1950) ist der beste Dudelsackspieler Bulgariens. Er war Leiter des Folkloreensemble in Stara Zagora und führte dieses zu internationalem Ansehen. Trotzdem sind Peter Bonevs Heimat die Straßen der Metropolen: Sofia, Rom, Paris, Oslo, Florenz, Mailand, London, Wien und Delhi. Er bringt mit seiner Gaida (Bulgarischer Dudelsack) die Freiheit und Weite der Straße als authentischen Balkanfolk erster Güte auf die Bühne. Peter Bonev sucht den direkten Kontakt zum Publikum auf der Straße wie im Saal. Er verbindet Kunst mit Lebenskunst und vermittelt durch seine Musik das Lebensgefühl seiner Heimat - des Balkans. Peter Bonev gastiert diesen Dezember in Berlin.

Balkan Road Movie verbindet mit Peter Bonev die Faszination für die Straßen dieser Welt. TaxiGourmet & TaxiBerlin freuen sich ganz besonders, ihn im Dezember 2011 in Berlin präsentieren zu können.

Peter Bonev, also known as the Jimi Hendrix of the Bulgarian bagpipe, is coming to Berlin in December 2011 to give a concert.

After searching for Peter all over Bulgaria this September, Balkan Road Movie finally found him, thanks to the help of some buskers in Sofia and to the power of the Internet.

We are bringing Peter Bonev to Berlin to share his music with as many people as we can. He'll play on the streets, in the Christmas markets, in schools - anywhere we think people will appreciate his haunting, otherworldly, arresting sound.

Peter Bonev may be Bulgaria's greatest living bagpipe player, but his stage, as the Sofia Echo newspaper puts it, is the street.

BACK TO BERLIN

Besser hätte der Empfang in Bayern kaum sein können. Die freundliche Verkäuferin am Fleischstand vom REAL Supermarkt in Rosenheim konnte uns keine Weißwürste warm machen. Der Grund: Arbeitsschutz. Eine Kollegin hatte sich schon mal beide Arme verbrannt. Befehl von ganz oben. Leider war die Chefin vom Fleischstand gerade persönlich anwesend. Sonst hätte uns die freundliche Verkäuferin natürlich die Weißwürste mittels Mikrowelle warm gemacht. Vielleicht hatte aber die Anweisung von ganz oben doch ihre Berechtigung ...

Wenn du aus einen Land (Bulgarien) kommst, wo Nicken Nein und Kopf schütteln Ja bedeuten, kann dich, selbst wenn du nur zwei Wochen dort warst, nichts mehr wirklich erschüttern ...

10 countries, 6,663 kilometers, and a final 31-hour trek from Ohrid, Macedonia to Berlin (with a 4 hour nap at a gas station in Slovenia).

It's not the photos, it's not the souvenirs, it's not even the taste memories that made this a great trip. It was seeing a part of the world I didn't know before, and coming back with my eyes open a little wider.

HOLY OHRID

Es gäbe viel zu sagen über Ohrid in F.Y.R.O.M. oder besser: Former Yugoslav Republic Of Macedonia (Ehemalige Jugoslawische Republik Mazedonien): Wiege des Altkirchenslawischen, Hauptstadt des Bulgarischen Reiches (Foto unten) unter Samuil (wenngleich nur 17 Jahre) oder architektonische Highlights wie die Sophienkirche und die Kirche des Heiligen Johannes von Kaneo (Foto oben).

Ohrid ist aber nicht nur Kulturerbe sondern zugleich auch Naturerbe der UNESCO. Eine Ehre, die weltweit nur achtundzwanzig Orten zuteil wird. Und so hast du sicherlich Verständnis dafür, daß wir unsere Zeit hier lieber in Ruhe auf unserem Balkon mit Blick auf den Ohridsee und rüber nach Albanien verbringen und du alles, genauso wie wir auch, im Internet nachlesen musst.

If Macedonia is a treasure chest of hills and forests and waterfalls (which it is), Ohrid is its most beautiful pearl. The city and its namesake lake are one of only 28 UNESCO World Heritage sites to be distinguished for cultural and natural reasons.

Also known as the Slavic Jerusalem, Ohrid once claimed 365 churches, including the otherworldly St. John at Kaneo (photo above). Yes, it's a tourist center, and, yes, Ohrid has been conquered by everyone from the Romans and the Byzantines to the Bulgarians (the photo below is a fortress built by Bulgarian King Samuil) and the Ottomans. Still, there's a sacred energy that runs through the place, a serenity that makes it easy to understand why Ohrid has been a focal point for scholarship and spiritual contemplation for over a thousand years.
